Geometry Honors * Chapter 11 * Surface Area and Volume
28 School Days Remaining
Week #5
Monday, April 20
Topic: Ch 11.1 - Space Figures and Cross Sections Due: April 20 (11:59 p.m.)
** You'll be much happier if you watch the videos before working on the assignments.
** You can watch them more than once if you're still confused. Follow along with the textbook pages.
Assignment: 1. Watch the two YouTube videos (attached below) Total run time is about 12 minutes.
2. Download the pdf file of Textbook pages (attached below). They follow along with the 2nd video.
3. Do textbook Pg. 692#6 - 14 (all) Answers in pdf file below. Remember, these are practice questions for
you, and they don't have to be turned in; I'm giving you full credit for them on your honor. : )
Helpful Hints:
1) The Lateral Surface Area is where you add up the areas (Length x Width) of each "side" piece
(but not the top or bottom).
Front / Back / Left side / Right side
Shortcut Formula: Lateral Area = Perimeter of the base TIMES height of the prism
(LA = ph)
2) The Surface Area is EVERY outside face of the object.
Front / Back / Left side / Right side / Top / Bottom
Shortcut Formula: Surface Area = Lateral Area PLUS Area of bottom and top
(SA = LA + 2B)
Essentially, you want to calculate the area of every individual side,
and then combine each side value together for a total result.
